University of
Mosul
The
beginning of University of Mosul dates back to the year
1959, the year in which the college of Medicine started its
first academic year. The actual appearance of Mosul
University as an educational institute based on the ground
backs to 1967, the day in which the order No.14 was issued
by the government for establishing the Iraqi University
(University of Mosul ). The University of Mosul has expanded
over the years, it includes twenty colleges , (7) research
centers , (6) consulting institutions , five clinics and
hospitals, six museums , a number of directorates, and
substantive and administrative units, The University of
Mosul achieved the goals of higher education in Iraq by the
preparation of national staffs qualified scientifically in a
hundred scientific discipline and support scientific
research and community service .. At the level of
preparation of cadres of Mosul University awarded bachelor's
degrees and Higher Diploma and Professional Diploma, Masters
and Ph.D. in scientific discipline hundred distributors in
the interdisciplinary fields of various departments at the
university .. It also follows university graduates yet
employed in government departments through the successive
sessions of the continuing education program, which aims at
re-graduates and updating information by teaching them
according to the latest scientific methods.
At
the level of supporting of scientific research requirement,
the University put a system connected to the research to
qualify generations to advance scientifically and to stand
in the front rows of the scene of this science, patents, and
provide all what is new .. At the level of community service
the university provides services to the university
environment across various means including the experiences
of practice in the field transmitted by the scientific teams
composed of university students and professors to the
villages and regions
These teams provide consulting services and treatment for
people in the areas of health, agricultural, scientific, and
various social aspects. It assesses these experiences in the
summer every year since 1988.Aditionally it assesses the
experiences of competitions of creative Arts in more than
thirty activities aims at embracing the talents of
students and provides dentistry service to the schools in
the area of Nineveh province. The university participate in
the encyclopedic arena by issuing Encyclopedia of Mosul
civilization in five volumes and preparing to issue another
one related to Iraq civilization in more than twenty
volumes, and the University's role in the dissemination of
the Arabian creative heritage by introducing the first
edition of the book (( Aqd al Joman in the poets of this
time)) for the Arabian author Ibn Alshaar al Musli.. The
university issued the first astronomical Arabic calendar
since the Abbasid era and one of the four most important
calendars and issued parts of the calendar since the year
2000 the estimated area of the first position of the
University of Mosul, with 52.85 hectares be added to it a
total area of agriculture, forestry, amounting to 41.01
hectares and the estimated area of the University Centre II
amounting to 2296 hectares, including the houses of the
teachers.
