A Higher Diploma Research was discussed in Department of Electrical Engineering / College of Engineering at University of Mosul entitled "Characteristics Enhancement of Microstrip Antenna Using DGS Technique" submitted by (Ali Zeyad Abdul-Jabbar Hameed), Supervised By (Dr. Yessar Ezzaldeen Mohammed Ali) on Tuseday, June 28, 2022.

The research included a study of Microstrip Antenna presented in terms of the main components of this type of antenna and the most important characteristics and disadvantages of it. The resonant frequency was chosen as 1.8GHz.

The CST STDUO software  was used for the purpose of designing, analyzing and studying the characteristics of the designed antennas, where the antenna was designed in the traditional method, and the width of the patch was 51mm and the length 39mm..

The Defected Ground Structure (DGS) technique was applied to the antenna to improve its characteristics a rectangular slot was made in the ground plane,

The letter (U) was also made for the same traditional antenna in order to obtain a second resonant frequency for this antenna, 2.4GHz and 1.8GHz.

The rest of the characteristics of this antenna such as gain, efficiency, frequency band and return loss were also improved.
